I have some question regarding helping other sentients taking refuge to GrandMaster.

These question came because I thought taking refuge must come from our own will and came with samaya between Acarya and student.

1. What if Earth god, ancestors, Karmic negatives, refuse to take refuge because of some reason?
2. In the case if our ancestors, or Karmic negatives with current birth form will not aware on this situation. Example, my ancestor rebirth into human form and know nothing about this. Will the taking refuge with GM successful?
3. Helping animal to take refuge. I read GM personally did this. How we as student help animal to take refuge? Most animal form will not be aware (I think).

How this will help them?

Again I ask this because maybe the animal is not aware we are helping them to take refuge.

Hope fashi can clear my fixation about refuge.. hehe}

They all have Buddha nature same as us. Their karma causes their reincarnation into different forms only.

The following are my humble opinion only, readers may choose to differ.

I remember sharing taking refuge for those karmic negatives for an individual.

Taking refuge in this case is actually a part of saying sorry to them and offering them the best that the individual is able to do for them.

One has to have some understanding of Karma and the Samsaric cycle though.

During negotiation with students’ karmic foes; I would tell them to let go of anger; hatred; and the thought to take revenge. Explaining to them about the sufferings in the lower of 6 realms; about the unhappiness of living with anger and hatred and waiting for a chance to take revenge.

These are waste of time whereas they can accept refuge with an accredited guru and the 3 jewels and help themselves to eventually leave the sufferings of the samsaric cycle forever.

Also dedicated merits of cultivation to them and offer them lotuses and other resources for them to ‘survive’ comfortably.

Likening the refuge taking as their travel documents to pureland and the lotuses as the vehicles transporting them to pureland. The dedicated merits as resources to be utilised in pureland too.

Of course they have a choice to take refuge or not; and to accept the apologies and the dedicated offerings or not.

For most in the 3 lower realms, having experienced sufferings of all kinds; some as penalties for their own negative karma, they will gladly accept help to leave these sufferings behind forever.

Articles like Sea Burial; 49 Days; ……. are those that want to be free from Samsaric cycle and seek help from family; friends …..

I believe that even if one is reincarnated into Human form, helping them take refuge is of no harm to them and we are giving them some form of help only.

We can help animals and spirits and deities take refuge and it is up to them whether they want to accept and cultivate to save themselves or not.

Do not create suffering for self in too much thoughts! Remember that 6th Zen patriarch, Hui neng, said that All Thoughts Are Evil. :)

Remember we always share goodness and happiness all around and do not worry self about whether these will be accepted or not.
