the Dalai Lama told a reporter, “I want to emphasize that we are Buddhists and may
not harm a large number of living beings.” He also said, “I abstained from eating
meat in 1965. Two years later, I had problems with my liver. My doctor suggested
that I eat meat. I eat very little meat.”
The Dalai Lama said that Buddhists may not harm a large number of living beings.

Does he mean that Buddhists may harm a small number of living beings?
The meaning of his other words is that by eating a little meat he is not committing an offense, whereas eating a lot of meat would be an offense.
I would like to ask a question to all of you eminent monastics of exoteric and esoteric Buddhism, Mahayana or Hinayana Buddhism.
Is eating a small amount of meat justified in that it is not a violation of the precepts for monks?
The meaning of the Dalai Lama’s words is that he is a notch higher than Sakyamuni Buddha and that the precepts laid down by Sakyamuni Buddha do not count.

To the sender of this email, I underlined certain parts of the passage you sent.
In Summary, the writer is biased against a "Figure Head" of Prominence. Bringing Comparison against Sakyamuni Buddha, the writer made a grave Mistake, as this is Dualism and not what writer coined as "Concise People" will do. :)
Writer also state that in the past, Tibetans families chant Six Syllable Great Brightness Mantra (Om Mani Pad Me Hom) when killing a living being.
Does writer knows about the "powers" of this mantra? Hahaha!
This is Avalokitesvara's mantra and like the numerous variants of this Boddhisattva, reaches All of the 6 Realms of Samsara.
We in True Buddha School, of Tantric leanings, were taught from Refuge to chant Rebirth mantra of Amitabha Buddha or Deliverance mantra of Manjusri Boddhisattva; to deliver the spirits to Pureland before consumption of food. We therefore cleanse the food.
We also does Offering to all Divinities before partaking of the food too.
The Dualistic view of small or large quantity really Not An Issue at All! :)
Just because I posted and quoted some articles on the Dalai Lama, does not mean I will blindly join in anyone's crusade or vendetta against any person, be they prominent or not!
I think I am one of those "Concise people" the writer pointed to? :)
Also remember that Karma is of the Individual's and nothing to do with others!
We voiced opinion for the Good of all beings like my article about Sexual abuse of minors by monks in the Holy institutions, hoping that the relevant authorities do something to halt these Heinous crimes! We are not to defame or down some one of Prominence and paving the way for another to take over!
In my humble opinion, anyone waiting in line to "Take - over", in Religious context, also wasting their time, in which, time, can be better use to pursue more worthwhile causes to lessen suffering of sentient beings.
To people that think that you can use me or my websites for your vendettas or biased crusades, Sorry, I am not your cup of tea!
