Guru said when you chant [ Namo Amituofo], you must do it with visualization, so as to be effective.
Likewise, when you chant any other mantra or sutra, you can follow Guru's instruction.
The extra BIG & Important [Self/Me] is your target to let go or set free.
Following is a dialogue with a student.
AA: I would like to know the Key to 9-steps breathing practice, please do not scold me for asking. :)
LC: OK! Tell me what do you think is Important in 9-steps breathing practice.
AA: Fine; Slow; Long. 细，慢，长. [means breathing regulation].
LC: What else? :)
AA: .........
LC: That day, a fellow student told us that he went to ask Guru for the key to 9-steps breathing and what did I say to him?
AA: He still can't do it properly.
Dear all, have key or not, what do you think is the most important in cultivating 9-steps breathing?
Guru said: for those that claimed to be able to stay in Meditation/Samadhi for 30 minutes at one go, not possible for Guru himself too!

There are many that get stuck because they are too "Attached" or "Fixated" on RIGHT & WRONG approach!
Guru promised his Guru that he will not fix prices/fees on his services, resulting in all abusing this compassionate services for all sentient beings.
What can you learn if you are insincere? Hahaha!
I heard some VMs following #2 foot-steps and hounding Guru to tell them or reveal to them what is Enlightenment!!!

They are blind to what #2 has gone through when Guru said I told him what is Enlightenment. Enlightenment as per Lineage Gurus, cannot reveal!
Observe all Enlightened Ones in TBS?
Think that they are using their Enlightenment to cultivate to benefit all?
TBS, in my humble opinion, is no longer a "home" for those that Understand Renunciation and want to share their knowledge with all in Freeing themselves from Sentient Suffering, do you agree?
It is yet another sentient minded commercial institution and not a Buddhist Assembly of Sincere Cultivators, working for the Benefits of all.
Just see how these 3-poisons beings are tiring Guru with sentient matters to feather their own coffers!

Lying and cheating others in order to accumulate sentient wealth, fame, power.... :)
The Secret key to 9-steps breathing practice has been revealed by Guru many times.
If you still want to know, ask Guru sincerely.

This is initial deposit for 4 one-hourly session and if you learn slow, you have to fork out for another or subsequent 4 such sessions.
Well, when you have to pay for something, you will learn fast, agree? :)
Guru said that in olden days, students have to travel long distance with most of their family assets to seek out Gurus and offer to them and plead for teaching them Tantric Practices. For some, the offering constituted their family fortune. :)
This breathing technique is the precursor of Inner Tantra, that most failed to grasp.

You have to put in effort to truly Cultivate and not just go let Guru touch you head and bless you all the time! :)
