When One dies, the bardo form normally "hangs around" for about 49 days before they are "sentenced" as per their Karmic levels.
They can be send to various halls of Hell as per these Karmic levels of theirs.
However, those that have Good affinity with Buddha or had accumulated good merits, will go to Heavenly realm till their merits are spent. They then rejoin the reincarnation cycle of the 6 Realms.
We have some that opted for Sea-burial, thinking they can freely go without leaving a trace behind.
To their horror, they found out from the "ghostly-grapevine" that things are not what they think at all!

For one, they have to answer for karma negative deeds, one by one.
Therefore, they will be "travelling from "Jobs to Jobs" in the various section of the underworld.

Few years back, I attended a wake and the practitioners even do the 49th day services on the 4th day!
So Must Do or for the convenience of the practitioners that charge you sky-high prices for their services?
O! Most of them will put fear into you and say: if you don't do this and that, then there will be big trouble ........
