[Peggy Leong  Yes, I support Joseph point of view, Fa shi you Have too much grievances in your heart.   I Have read your blogIn your blog, you always critise and point fault at your very own fellow brothers, and masters.

May you Have peace

Francesca Poon Dear Peggy, Hahaha! Reading and Understanding are 2 different matters! I thank you for your advice to change my style of Living!

However, I also humbly suggest you go read some Zen Koans that Guru wrote with Live Subjects and other Koans by other Zen masters.

Do not only glean the Surface only. Hahaha! Amituofo!]

It seems most people think that analysis of a subject to incite Deep thoughts is consider as Talking Bad, Criticize, Pointing Fault (I don't understand this one, its from Peggy above.)

For most TBS' students, each of us had at least read One of Guru's books or watch a video of an event or attended one of Guru's event too, what is Guru doing all this time?

How many times, Guru said: I will leave it to the Saintly Students to answer this question?

Telling Jokes and stories of real live subjects but using a common name to keep the subjects' identities confidential!

Read about Zen Koan and I sincerely hope you add the category of Zen Koan to your portfolio of Nouns to use in future when you are going to make a pronouncement of Great Import!

Of course if the word ZEN frightens you at sight, then perhaps you need to work harder at Resource Path that Guru taught us to build Affinity and Neutralize Karmic Negatives!

Cheers! Om Guru Lian Sheng Siddhi Hom!

kōan (play /ˈk.ɑːn/Chinese: 公案; pinyingōng'ànKorean: 공안 (kong'an);Vietnamesecông án) is a storydialogue, question, or statement, which is used in Zen-practice to provoke the "great doubt", and test a student's progress in Zen practice.

The word koan, literally "public case", comes from the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese characters (公案).

Etymology

Kōan is a Japanese rendering of the Chinese term (公案), transliterated kung-an (Wade-Giles) or gōng'àn (Pinyin).

Chung Feng Ming Pen (中峰明本 1263–1323) wrote that kung-an is an abbreviation for kung-fu an-tu (公府之案牘, Pinyin gōngfǔ zhī àndú, pronounced in Japanese as kōfu no antoku), which referred to a "public record" or the "case records of a public law court" in Tang-dynasty China.[1][2][a] Kōan/kung-an thus serves as a metaphor for principles of reality beyond the private opinion of one person, and a teacher may test the student's ability to recognize and understand that principle.

Commentaries in kōan collections bear some similarity to judicial decisions that cite and sometimes modify precedents. An article by T. Griffith Foulk claims

...Its literal meaning is the 'table' or 'bench' an of a 'magistrate' or 'judge' kung.[2]

Kung-an was itself originally a metaphor — an article of furniture that came to denote legal precedents. A well-known example of this legal usage is The Cases of Judge Dee (狄公案 Di Gongan in Chinese), a Ming dynasty novel based on a historical Tang dynasty judge. In the same way, Zen kōan collections are public records of the notable sayings and actions of Zen disciples and masters attempting to pass on their teachings.

Origins and development

Historical antecedents of koan-practice

Before the tradition of meditating on kōans was recorded, Huangbo Xiyun (720–814) and Yun Men (864–949) are both recorded to have said, "Yours is a clear-cut case (chien-cheng kung-an) but I spare you thirty blows," seemingly passing judgment over students' feeble expressions of enlightenment.

By the Sung Dynasty, the term kung-an had taken on roughly its present meaning. According to Foulk, Xuedou Zhongxian (雪竇重顯 980–1052) — the original compiler of the 100 cases that later served as the basis for the Blue Cliff Record — used the term kung-anjust once in that collection, in Case #64.[2]

Yuanwu (圜悟克勤 1063–1135), compiler of the Blue Cliff Record (碧巌録) in its present form, "gained some insight" by contemplating (kan) kōans.[4][5] Yuanwu may have been instructed to contemplate phrases by his teachers, Chen-ju Mu-che (dates unknown) and Wu-tzu Fa-yen (五祖法演 ?-1104).

Encounter dialogue

Kōans and their study developed in Chinawithin the context of the open questions and answers of teaching sessions conducted by the Chinese Chán masters. The recorded encounter dialogues, and the koan collections which derived from this genre, mark a shift from solitary practice to interaction between master and student:

The essence of enlightenment came to be identified with the interaction between masters and students. Whatever insight dhyana might bring, its verification was always interpersonal. In effect, enlightenment came to be understood not so much as an insight, but as a way of acting in the world with other people[6]

This mutual enquiry of the meaning of the encounters of masters and students of the past gave students a role model:

One looked at the enlightened activities of one's lineal forebears in order to understand one's own identity [...] taking the role of the participants and engaging in their dialogues instead[7][b]

Literary practice

Koan practice developed from a literary practice, styling snippets of encounter-dialogue into well-edited stories. It arose in interaction with "educated literati".[8] There were dangers involved in such a literary approach, such as fixing specific meanings to the cases.[8]Dahui Zonggao is even said to have burned the woodblocks of the Blue Cliff Record, for the hindrance it had become to study of Chán by his students[9] Kōan literature was also influenced by the pre-Zen Chinese tradition of the "literary game" — a competition involving improvised poetry.[10]

The style of writing of Zen texts has been influenced by "a variety of east Asian literary games"[11]:

The extensive use of allusions, which create a feeling of disconnection with the main theme;

Indirect references, such as titling a poem with one topic and and composing a verse that seems on the surface to be totally unrelated;

Inventive wordplay based on the fact that kanji (Chinese characters) are homophonic and convey multiple, often complementary or contradictory meanings;

Linking the verses in a sustained string based on hidden points of connection or continuity, such as seasonal imagery or references to myths and legends.[11]

Koan-practice

Study of kōan literature is common to all schools of Zen, though with varying empahsises and curriculae.[12] A kōan or part of a kōan may serve as a point of concentration during meditation and other activities, often called "kōan practice" (as distinct from "kōan study", the study of kōan literature). Kōan may consist of a perplexing element or a concise but critical word or phrase (話頭 huàtóu) extracted from the story. It may also refer to poetry and commentary added to the story by later Zen teachers.

Instructions for kōan-practice

A qualified teacher provides instruction in kōan practice in private.

In the Wumenguan (Mumonkan), public case #1 ("Zhaozhou's Dog"), Wumen (Mumon) wrote:

...concentrate yourself into this 'Wú'... making your whole body one great inquiry. Day and night work intently at it. Do not attempt nihilistic or dualistic interpretations."[13]

Arousing this great inquiry or "Great Doubt" is an essential element of kōan practice. To illustrate the enormous concentration required in kōan meditation, Zen Master Wumen commented,

It is like swallowing a red-hot iron ball. You try to vomit it out, but you can't.

Testing insight

A kōan may be used as a test of a Zen student's ability. For monks in formal training, and for some laypersons, a teacher invokes a kōan and demands some definite response from a student during private interviews. Kōans are often presented with the teacher's unique commentary. A kōan may seem to be the subject of a talk or private interview with a student. The dialog, lecture, or sermon involving the kōan may resemble a performance, ritual duty, or poetry reading.

Teachers may probe students about their kōan practice using "checking questions" to validate an experience of insight (kensho) or awakening. Responses by students have included actions or gestures, "capping phrases" (jakugo), and verses inspired by the kōan.

The meaning of a kōan can only be demonstrated in a live experience. Texts, including kōan collections and encyclopedia articles, cannot convey that meaning, though understanding the context from which koans emerged can remove some of the mystery surrounding a kōan. For example, when a monk asked Zhaozhou (Joshu) "does a dog have Buddha-nature or not?", the monk was referring to the understanding of the teachings on Buddha-nature, which were understood in the Chinese context of absolute and relative reality.[14][15][c]

Appropriate responses to a kōan vary, since different teachers may demand different responses to a given kōan, and the answers may vary by circumstance. One of the most common recorded comments by a teacher on a disciple's answer is: "Even though that is true, if you do not know it yourself, it does you no good."[who?] The master is not looking for a specific answer but for evidence that the disciple has grasped the state of mind expressed by the kōan itself.

Therefore, although there may be "traditional answers" (kenjo 見処 or kenge 見解) to many kōans, these are only preserved as exemplary answers given in the past by various masters during their own training. In practice, many answers could be correct, provided that they convey proof of personal realization. Kōan training requires a qualified teacher who has the ability to judge a disciple's depth of attainment. In the Rinzai Zen school, which uses kōans extensively, the teacher certification process includes an appraisal of proficiency in using that school's extensive kōan curriculum. In Japanese Zen, Chinese Ch'an, Korean Seon, Vietnamese Thien, and Western Zen, kōans play similar roles, although significant cultural differences exist.

Varieties in koan-practice

Chinese Chán and Korean Seon

In Chinese Chán and Korean Seon, the primary form of Koan-study is hua-tou, "word head".[16] In this practice, a fragment of the koan, such as "mu", or a "what is"-question is used by focusing on this fragment and repeating it over and over again:[17][18]

Who is it who now repeats the Buddha's name?

Who is dragging this corpse about?
What is this?
What is it?
What was the original face before my father and mother were born?

Who am I?[web 1]

The student is assigned only one hua-tou for a lifetime.[16]

In contrast to the similar sounding "who am I?" question of Ramana Maharshi, hua-tou involves raising "great doubt":[web 2]

This koan becomes a touchstone of our practice: it is a place to put our doubt, to cultivate great doubt, to allow the revelation of great faith, and to focus our great energy.[16]

Lotuschef in Conversation - Prioritize

From KY: Dear Lotus Chef,

Could I request a price discount on your price for the upcoming fire puja ceremony inJakarta at21 July 2012:

  • Karmic negatives/Fetus spirits – USD 30 each.

  • Ancestors – USD 18 each per Family name

  • Individual lotus offering is USD 12 each for those attending and USD 10 for not attending

I wished to register all of my family:

1. Four (4) people each for each Karmic Negatives/fetus spirits Total USD 120
2. Ancestors from my father's and mother's side Total USD 36
3. Attending the fire puja (me and my brother) Total USD 24
4. Not attending the fire puja (father and mother) Total USD 20

The total should be USD 200 or equivalent to IDR 2,000,000. This price for my size is very large and I could not afford it (almost 40% of my salary). Could you give me a special price?

Thanks and best regards,

From Lotuschef:

Dear KY

You have yet to understand what I am sharing on blog.

I often advise students to sit down and relax and be COOL, CALM & CLEAR MINDED

then sort out what you really need and what you don't.

Your plight is lack of funds for all those dedications and etc that you wanted done or you think you need.

Just pay for 4 lotuses with offering and you can dedicate all you want to whoever you wish.

I am teaching you all to talk to Guru and Divinities Sincerely.

For the old folks, Fire puja is very beneficial as I help them to offer and then draw blessings from universe thru their crowns, filling them.

You look at the fire puja photos on my blog, the older folks are bright n shining n happy to attend our functions.

Alternatively, sell the Thangkas that you wish to donate to Pure Karma and pay for special dedication packages.

Thangkas n etc. are material possessions that a cultivator really don't need.

Pure karma is next door to a fellow student who has plenty of statues which he sponsors for our fire puja event. Like a temporary loan. He said he benefits in that the statues got Initialized and blessed.

So my advice to you is to Prioritize.

Amituofo

From JH: May i say something too to KY Fashi? He7..

Hi KY , You can also register the special packages gradually for events in Singapore later. We (Indonesian) usually have some donation which will be transferred to Fashi every month.

This time, better for four of you try to attend as Fashi has explained before

No hurry ^^

From Lotuschef to JH: hi dear, u also didnt understand what I am trying to teach KY! hahahahaha

we have to learn to give up things  which we think we need very much and all at same time

doing it later means One never learns to let go

From JH: -,- sorry Fashi

Ha7.. Just give him another option

From Lotuschef: no need to say sorry. if you didn’t offer, then you won’t learn, right?

at least now, you know what I want to teach KY n you learn too

JH: Yup, i got it

He7..

Lotuschef : Good boy!

JH: LoL..yes Mam

Lotuschef:  hehehe.....

Dear all,

For all serious cultivators, please learn to frequently sort out and let go.

Therein lies a part of the answer to Question 3 from article: Lotuschef at Play – 菩提 Bodhi

Cheers all.

Lotuschef at Play - 龙袍生基Long Pao Sheng Ji

Terjemahan Indonesia: Lotuschef Bermain-main – Perbaikan Nasib dengan Rompi Naga

Do you have the following?

The above is from a student that paid for the Dragon Robe change life for the better method. This is a letter he wrote to the said Temple:-

[Shizun's speech on 23 June at Seattle temple, states that he never transmit "Sheng ji fa" to ANY student.

The Dragon Robe "Sheng ji fa" that we participated in CC Lei Zang Temple, Shangshi and Jiang shi told us that this is transmitted by Shizun and also blessed by Shizun. Based on these statements, we participated heartily paying $600 each.

Now, after Shizun's speech, we know we are cheated. Therefore we request that CC Lei Zang Temple remove our names from the Dragon Robe "Sheng ji fa" and give us a refund. The whole procedure must be witness by our presence. Please reply and arrange a time.  Hope to settle this matter within a month.

If no reply, we reserve our legal rights to seek solution.

Thank you for your cooperation! ]

The email below is from yet another.

Hi Lian Chu Fa Shi,

I've read the blog your recently posted on facebook about ' Long Pao

Sheng Ji Fa'. Are those all regarding to CC雷藏寺?

Thanks.

Regards,

Reply:-

Yes.

Sadly, Guru said never teach anyone fengshui n Sheng ji fa before in recent dharma speech.

Sheng ji fa needs "live dragon vein"

The spot should be ever flowing with energy or light.

The robe is CUT cloth n sewn up.

All those students' have part of their spirit or Essences in there.

This method is supposed to change one's destiny or fate for the better if done correctly.

Guru said if not, fate of people will become worse!

This is my humble opinion only.

Lucky for you all, I don't feel any energy from the glassed up box where the dragon robe is!

U can see, so maybe u go n sit down there n feel whether there is anything or see any light or not.

Best u confirm yourself.

There are students that have problems that seek help from me.

One keeps calling said his brother wants to commit suicide.

They did this dragon robe fa.

They are twins!

I cleaned up one n help the other do dedication to karmic negatives.

U also can take a good look at XX - his eyes have green lights

His brother YY is grey greenish - ghostly

ZZ - ghostly. Other than bad signs of balding n bad complexion, have a look at what u see n tell me.

It is best you go find out the truth for yourself.

Very easy, chant guru's mantra n ask guru to show you!

You might see more or different too.

All of us differ a little.

TT shijie told me that a shixiong told her not to go CC temple 2 years earlier than me. He saw the green light in XX's eyes n more.

Of course for those that cultivate well, they have some protection.

Think of all the essences trap in the same space that is dead! They will interact with each other?

Best go listen to guru's speech n also go on line to find out more.

ZZ is a good sales promoter, he does that last year at DD's temple.

My article: dharma speech or sales pitch is about him.

I hope each student understand what guru teaches n also be clear on what they really need n not go do something that might bring suffering to themselves or make their fate even worse.

Cheers dear

Religious Scam?

  1. Root Guru states very clearly during Dharma Speech broadcasted world wide via internet on 23 June 2012 that HE HAS NEVER TRANSMIT this practice of "Sheng ji fa" to ANY student! What more with a Dragon Robe?

  2. "Shangshi and Jiangshi told us that this is transmitted by Shizun and also blessed by Shizun. Based on these statements, we participated heartily paying $600 each."

I hope this matter is settled as soon as possible between parties amicably.

I hope too that all those that participated be given the same settlement as well, and not be left out because of their ignorance.

If this matter go through the Judiciary System any where in the world, the persons and chapters involved will not only face their Karmic related penalties but added penalties of the Sentient realm too!

Yet another unpalatable matter.

Please sit down frequently and sort out what you really need and don't fall prey into any "get rich quick"; "get powerful fast"; ....... scams.

Lotuschef at Play - Why Can't Yoga [2]

The Gold Mani stone resting atop a golden lotus throne!

Comprehending it's secret essence, you reach Great Perfection!

Let starts our journey again walking in step with dear Guru.

This is a question from Lotus Raymond.

莲花明祥: 不可被有形之观点永远捉住。当了解时,就要放开有形观想,宇宙是由能量和光组成的。是吗?

Lotus Raymond : Cannot be trap by viewpoints on forms forever. Once understand, must let go of visualization with forms, because universe is formed by energy and light. Correct?

Hahaha!  I would like to tell Lotus Raymond and all of you with similar questions to ask Guru!

Why?

It is all in Guru's latest speech!!!

From Great Bliss;  Light; Void and after Void, one needs Bodhicitta to spark up and come awake again!

As to how, and when, depends on Individuals and how much they learn from Guru's speeches.

I am handing you all to Guru! Hehe!

I will just trail behind Guru and all of you and enjoy the walk to my utmost!

Cheers all

Lotuschef in Conversation - 饿鬼道 Hungry Ghosts Realm

Dear all, Let our fingers do the walking when in Doubt. Do not listen to others you think are in the know because they gave themselves Titles!

Paying hefty sums to buy yourselves Suffering of worries; and even more to make good these worries, when you can stay calm and cool and go do research.

I am sharing the following and hope everyone go seek answers by yourself with cool calm clear mind and don't get cheated by self proclaimed masters; mediums; geomancers; ....

Hungry Ghosts (Pretas) are pitable things. They are wasted creatures with huge, empty stomachs. Their necks are too thin to allow food to pass. So, they are constantly hungry.

Greed and jealousy lead to rebirth as a Hungry Ghost. The Hungry Ghost Realm often, but not always, is depicted between the Asura Realm and the Hell Realm. It is thought the karma of their lives was not quite bad enough for a rebirth in the Hell Realm but not good enough for the Asura Realm.

Psychologically, Hungry Ghosts are associated with addictions, compulsions and obsessions. People who have everything but always want more may be Hungry Ghosts.

"Hungry ghost" is one of the six modes of existence (see Six Realms). Hungry ghosts are pitiable creatures with huge, empty stomachs. They have pinhole mouths, and their necks are so thin they cannot swallow, so they remain hungry. Beings are reborn as hungry ghosts because of their greed, envy and jealousy.

The Sanskrit word for "hungry ghost" is "preta," which means "departed one."

Many schools of Buddhism leave food offerings on altars for hungry ghosts. In the summer there are hungry ghost festivals throughout Asia that feature food and entertainment for the hungry ghosts.

My humble opinion:

For one that died of cancer, they normally will go into Hell Realm. Guru said people that had killed many, normally suffer from cancer.

Therefore, it is beneficial to help them SAY SORRY and NEUTRALISE the Karmic Negatives.

Those that took refuge in Guru and the bardo delivery sadhana has neutralizing karmic negatives sutras and mantras.

Done well, or effectively with Great Sincerity, the deceased "bardo body" can be delivered to Pureland. Even those that are not that "effective", with refuge in Guru and the Triple Gems; one normally do not drop into the 3 Lower Realms of Samsara.

Dear all, please look inwards and not outwards for answers!

Being cheated and frightened is not too palatable, correct?

For the group of students that asked about Hungry Ghostst Realm, if you would only have stay cool calm and clear, and let your fingers go search on line for relevant information and match to your sightings; you would save yourselves lots of suffering and seeking help everywhere!

What if I did not asked details but just proceed to do another bardo delivery for your relative again?

Hahaha! I don't like money? Should I just perform the relevant ceremonies and prayers as requested or recommended; collect the huge fees charged and keep quiet about what I know to be Untrue?

If I do that, I am not a True Yogi!!!

I am one that has Renounce Sentient Home / 出家; can I ignore my vows and go for Sentient materials by lying or withholding the Truths?  :)

O! Maybe I am very lazy and don't like to do ceremonies and prayers? Hehehe!

Cheers all.

Really feel happy for them being able to take refuge in GM :)

These are the address : xxxxxxxxxxx

Can let me know the cost so that I can pass it to you on this Saturday’s Fire Puja?

I will also contribute 10% of my nett commission of these 2 properties to Charity upon closing.

Amituofu

From Lotuschef:-

Hehe!

Dear Sn

Give the person a fish, it will replete his hunger for that meal.

However, teaching him to fish, he will not starve for the rest of his life!

At closing, I hope the commission use to sponsor supplies for Charities be given yewsin to buy supplies and we get them blessed by guru at our fire puja first

Currently, we have an ongoing program to buy supplies for Charities to distribute to needies after we get them blessed by Guru at fire puja sessions first

guiyi gongyang to guru is minimum S$10 each

the incense pack is $8 each

please state amount u wish to gongyang Guru

We have to learn to share Guru's greatness with all sentient beings, my dear.

cheers

Comments:-

Helping deities and spirits take refuge in Guru is Sharing Dharma, a form of Bodhicitta.

Making a wish to donate a percentage of income to charities, is making a Bodhicitta wish to alleviate sentient suffering.

Let us learn from Lotus Sn.

Cheers all. :)

Residences remain unsold

Hi Fashi,

Was just thinking of writing to you before I receive your this email.

I have been marketing these 2 penthouse units for the last 3-4 months.  Had also been offering to earth god, but the units are still remain unsold.  Not even a single offer coming in for the units.

The owners are my friends.  Although they did not say anything, but I also don't feel good that it takes so long.  It has never happen to me before to market a unit for so long.

Would like to hear from you Fashi, is there anything I can do to help to speed up the process?  Will not bother you if it is not more than 3 months liao.

Thanks alot

Amituofu

Dear Sn

This is private consultation as does not concern cultivation.

However, will answer you this time.

As I have not inspected the residences physically, I am in no position to give my opinion.

The following are my humble views only.

Help from unseen is also dependent on karmic factors of the owners of properties; market weather .........
Maybe the prices asked are too high.
Current climate of economy might not support ownership of high end residences.
There might be spirits that are lawful owners of those places too.
Asking earth deities to help is one thing but must not cause harm to other beings.

You might like to help the earth deities & spirits of these residences take refuge in Guru.

Refuge taking – 1. Gongyang Guru 供养师尊. 2. Incense pack to send refuge certificate.

Remember that offering to them only gives them resources to meet current needs but helping them take refuge in Guru & the Triple Gems can help them eventually to get free of sentient sufferings.

If you decide to help them take refuge, I need the address of the residences and will write you as the sponsor.

Always keep an open mind and explore other possibilities.

莲花净译 May 30, 2012 at 9:59 pm

[Lotus jingzhe: Still talking about the same Dharma propagator. My respected venerable, talk about people, people will talk about you. I truly wish and sincerely  hope for the day you will truly 'let go' ! (wholeheartedly wish that you can break through and move up another level). If I have offended you in any way, please overlook and forgive me! Lotus jingzhe palms together. ]

Dear 莲花净译, Have you really read this article with an Open Mind?

What is the morale of this article?

Do not affix any characteristics or behavior to others as this is Fixation and will cause unhappiness to Self as well as others.

Your interpretation of this article seems to be writer launching an attack on someone you know, it that right?

Or you mean the description fitted someone you know?

Do you really, really know this someone?

Who is the Kenpo?  Who do you think is the titled master?

Revised the 8 Fold Noble Paths thoroughly and look from a more rounded viewpoint.

Do not get stuck along the way.

Hahaha!

Was talking to some Foreign students about our Root Guru always try to appease; satisfy; all request and human cravings. Because each individual ultimately answers/pay back own Karma.

Your intent is hopefully sincere and not out to criticize and take sides. However, the morale of the article is to incite thoughts processes to be wary of those that as Guru said: Claims to have great powers but are all fakes.

We have all to be wary of those with conferred titles or self-proclaimed ones, so as not be led into Mara’s territories.

There are those with conferred titles which shirk their responsibilities as well, but would like to enjoy or bask in the glory and the worldly offering of followers.

Hahaha!

My humble advice: Let go of Fixation!

What have writer to gain from talking about these masters?

There is no personal vendetta as you so much wanted to fabricate, why?

Titles are what got you?

The Disclaimer on this blog is to read the blog with open mind.

Dharma is a true medicine.

Email Conversation:-

N: You know fashi, I can feel I start to be able to let go of many things. I no longer put pressure upon things that I want. And I'm not afraid to give my belongings to others in need.
I believe guru knows what's best for me (and for us) at the current condition.

And as you've taught, when I want to know more about someone, I can pray to guru and he shows me what I need to know.
Cheers fashi.

Dharma is a true medicine.

wow! u did the translation for x-dorje so fast!!!

cheers

N: Impromptu translation project of the day leh, fashi hehehe.

LC: Like me, u don't need much sleep too!

Hahaha!

Dear all,  learning to let go and to share with others is important in achieving the Right mindset for cultivation.

Also letting go of attachment and fixation, you let go of worries; fear; ....these are causative factors of stress and unhappiness which harm your health.

Trust in Root Guru is of utmost importance as well.

When you are willing to help, just making a wish and Guru will channel you to the respective division. In this case, translation work.

Last week, I did 3 fire puja cultivation and participated online for Guru's fire puja event in Caotun Temple.
Hahaha! I am so energised after last Saturday's evening Fire Puja session for Padmakumara and Vajrasattva. I was wide awake all through until about 10am next morning.

Dharma is indeed True Medicine!

:) Happy Cultivating!

Cultivation - Light

W: Amitofo Fashi,
I want to ask something. I have a feeling of suddenly being light after sadhana session. I think this is good sign?

LC: yup. u somehow learn to let go something during the period of cultivation.

if u can, take a photo of before and after cultivation. Trust me, there is visible differences if u cultivate with your heart.

W:This feeling never had this before.. Hehe

LC: so u are getting the "hang" or the right method of cultivation!

I hope reading my articles help you too.

W: Had to chant gao wang everyday..

LC: yes.

W: When I open facebook, your profile would be my first visit fashi

LC: do every step with visualization too

W: :)

LC: wow! a fan of mine!!!! Yippee!!!!

W: I mostly like to read when fashi post about not a good way to behave as a yogi

Can be a warning

LC: I sat down with nino & jun when in jkt and share with them some meditation techniques. hope to help u too, when i m next in jkt

actually should not talk bad about others, but must warn those unsuspecting not to fall prey to these bad cultivators

W: Latest Indonesian GM book release is deep too, "Pedang Mustika Yogi"

LC: what is it in english?

W: Dakini Putih says about treat today like your last day

I think Fashi shared some of the article

LC: is it Sword of the Yogi?

W: Yes. Must not lazy now hehe

LC: hehe! I love this book. there are lots of good stuff which i tried and translate n share

Actually if u keep guru in your heart/mind all the time, when u walk or do anything, silently chant guru's mantra n share the light from your heart chakra radiating all around u, u are always cultivating and very hardworking too

W: GM and White Dakini discussion about 5 precept is very deep.

LC: sharing light is bodhicitta too

Guru said everything we do is Dharma

White Dakini is white tara, n guru practice yabyum with her

W: I have habbit to chant while riding motorbike.. most of the time, when not too much carbon dioxide

LC: then wear a cloth mask or something. u chant and visualize the sound from your heart chakra is light energy spreading in circles outwards

W: But I think I just know how to visualize well lately

LC: good! bcos visualization is crucial to successful cultivation

gao wang visualization that I shared should help you. chant more of this everyday. Guru does at least 10times a day

W: Is visualizing Xie on heartcakra can do too?

LC: actually, i would advice not to be stuck with seed syllable too. just white light

W: Yeah it comes with white light

LC: then why make life so complicating? just white light will do lol..... hehehe

W: Thanks for the tips.. :)

LC: u r most welcome

i reading some of my own articles to check whether I give wrong info or not

most articles resulted from chat with guru. the ideas churned in my mind for sometime and when they matured, I have enough to write an article or sometime a whole series ....

Discriminating Tantrayana?

Dear Fa Shi,

I want to know your thought on this video.

Reply:

Hahaha!

Dear all, this is my humble opinion only. Readers may choose to differ.

Om Guru Lian Sheng Siddhi Hom!

Please watch and listen carefully to the video above and you will benefit tremendously.

The Venerable brought out the essence of Tantrayana in his speech.

It is Buddha's solution to merge the traditional practices with Dharma to achieve Great Harmony!

He states that it is stipulated in the scripture that one needs to study Mahayana teachings for at least 10 years, in order to understand and start to practice Tantrayana.

He liken it to a student having attained a Master Degree and then can proceed to study for higher Degree to be a Professor.

As per his Guru, Tantrayana is not for anyone, just because they want to learn.

He touches on Anu Yoga, the Yab Yum practice. He is correct in saying that if one has not reach full renunciation, the practice is obscene and will land one in Hell.

All in, he kind of dispelled the Discrimination of Tantrayana and the myth of Yab Yam practice.

I do agree with him on learning Mahayana's teachings as Foundation. I find that most Tantrayana students of all sectors like Red; White; Yellow; Flower; True Buddha School; .... have no basic concepts and just want to cultivate fast to acquire "powers" which sentient beings adhered to Tantrayana.

Hahaha!

From now on, I sincerely wish that all study and practice the 4 Noble Truths and the 8 Fold Path as a foundation. Please check out the Back to Basics series that I shared or search for them from online & or other sources familiar to you.

Remember the recent 9-stages of cultivation I shared in this blog. Mahayana is actually at level 3 and the Ultimate is level 9 - Ati Yoga.

However, bear in mind that there are those that are reincarnation of Yogi and able to recollect or "draw back" upon what they have cultivated and able to be a little faster in moving up the cultivation ladder.

Open Mindset of living Harmoniously with all and also sharing One's cultivation achievements with all as well.

Let us all be crazily happy!

Importance of Cultivation

From H:

Dear Fa Shi,

I really think Lotus Nino does cultivate really well.

I can tell from the way she talked. I went to Y last week.

I discovered there are so many Dong Men still don't realize the importance of doing cultivation.

Cultivation is extremely important.

I really don't know how to describe the important of it. :-)

From Lotuchef:-

hi nino dear

H praise u lol, have to work harder liao

hahaha!

cheers all

From Lotuschef:

Hi dear H

Everything depends on one's karmic influence and their eventual affinity

If they have the right potential, eventually they will know how to cultivate

By the way, Nino is a young and handsome gentleman

cheers

From Nino:

What lah fashi hahaha. Really, it's nothing.
Still long way to go, but I'm happy we are in a big happy family supporting one another.
Cheers and take care, fashi :)

From H:

hm.... Ok. :D

Nino did sound like a female. :)

Right now, I put cultivation of my daily habit.

I have a habit of walking down the street for 1 - 1 1/2 hours chanting guru mantra.

Since I visualize Grandmaster as me, I am only able to chant roughly about 6,000 - 8,000 times a week, but I prefer to do it slow. When I do it slow, I could feel a strong warm energy around my head, my chest, and my arm.

When I pay homage to the buddha, I feel that the visualization become reality especially when I said Om Ah Hom. I felt a strong light shine upon my face even though the room was dark. There are many occasions that when I do cultivation, I feel like a warm, but soft energy came down from above. I don't know what it was, but it feels really good.

I am going to continue this path of enlightment for the rest of this lifetime. :-)

Thank you Fa Shi.

Dear all,

It is not our lot to worry about whether others realized the importance of cultivation or not. It is more important that One cultivates well and then share the greatness of Dharma with all.

H shares his cultivation experiences with us and the wondrous feeling of blessing empowerment from Guru and all Divinities.

Actually when you chant Guru's mantra, you start to light up from within.

Light energy radiates outwards from your heart chakra, first filling you and then to your surrounding. You are actually sharing these wondrous energy with all around you and not segregating or discriminating any beings whether visible or invisible to the naked eye.

The more you chant, the more you share too.

Also when chanting Guru's mantra, One draws closer to Guru and eventually able to Yoga with Guru easily. That is you gradually think like Guru; act like Guru; ......

Imagine how good it is to walk along and share blessing along the way!!!

Try it!

You will find that your path smoothen out gradually and you get happier and happier too.

"Clash"?

Fashi, if I go full month celebration then go wake, is there any 'clash'?

Dear all,

Full month celebration is an auspicious event.

Attending a friend's wake is showing compassion for the deceased and his/her family.

For a True Buddha School's student, One can also chant Guru's long mantra and visualize Bardo delivery into the hands of Guru or Amitabha Buddha.

This is Bodhicitta in the form of sharing Dharma with the deceased.

"CLASH"???

All in your mind and giving weight to superstition.

Remember a cultivator can TRANSFORM.

Like Guru said for Hevajra's YabYum Practice, One can transform obscene act of coupling to purity by inculcating the stages into the 4 Preliminaries...

Mindset is the crucial factor for a cultivator.

Please throw away "fear" of "bad luck" resulting from non founded belief.

Please do apply what Guru teaches into your daily life too.

Cheers :)

Retreat - Cultivation

Hi Lotus Chef,

Thank you for your time answering my question.
Yes, let us have a good chat and tea together someday hahaha :)

I noticed that you work in Jakarta. Goodie!!! I love the food in some of the malls. Last round Lotus Nino brought me to this lovely Chinese cuisine place. :)

Regarding your opinion, let me share my experience first...

Fortunately I feel so lucky to taken a refuge in the Triple Jewels and GM in this lifetime. It is almost one year since I taken a refuge and many things that have happen in my life either ups and downs and honestly I believe that all I got in my lifetime now is from my past karmas. I have known about the Buddha's teaching since I was little but I do not completely understand the essence of Buddha's teaching.

After I have read GM books and GM past spiritual experiences by accident (which I have never heard of GM's name ever since I was a child), it have opened my eyes completely and I am sure this is the right choice for me.

Even my family members have taken refuge in the Triple Jewels and GM; which I did not expect earlier; especially for my little brother who was until now a Christian. I feel happy for them :)

All of you have the right ingredient = Affinity already!

Sometimes I have real experiences each time I spent my day cultivating even just only once every day such as; a feeling my head is touched or irradiated by the enlightened beings (even though I cannot see them with my naked eyes), feel my body shaken like being entered when I visualized when entered meditation, sometimes also in dreams, etc; but honestly I believe all my spiritual experiences is just the same with other beings who have taken the refuge in the Triple Jewels and GM. And I do not feel proud of it and have forgotten it each day because I know it is all from the compassion of GM and the enlightened beings so why should I feel special about it :)

My dear OPS, if you read my blog, you would have discovered that there are light orbs everywhere.

What draw them to gather around a certain place?

Like attracts like! When Guru does any cultivation session, all Divinities & Deities gathered around like attending a big party!

Light orbs as per Guru consist of a Divinity and his Mandala.

It is like a King having his court gathering around him.

When you cultivate and truly relax, then you can feel & sense the beings surrounding or co-existing with you.

When light orbs "bang against" you, its an amazing experience as it is a feather light touch but like a candle lighting up, you feel peace and joy and very comfortably loved and cared for.

However, when your body shake and you can't control the shaking, then the being merging with you is not "desirable". Best concentrate and draw Guru in first to ensure you don't merge with "undesirables".

I was wondering why in the first place I felt that I should take a long term retreat and whether I have the time etc for the retreat because in fact now I have other responsibilities such as for my family, my colleagues, etc, I feel ashamed of my ego even though I have a positive motivation for the retreat in the first place.

The reason why I was considering to take a long term retreat is to abstain myself from all worldly stuffs and beings and why I feel that I am a lay person because I have not taken any kind of Buddhist vow and even I have taken a vow, I feel I cannot preserve the vow itself.

I am glad that you understand my point about caring for your family's well-being first and also your career. You must not make any drastic changes to your current lifestyle and in so doing disrupt the ones around you, causing suffering like unhappiness.

Hahaha! You didn't get my take on the long retreat at all!!!

One do not need to lock or stay away from sentient beings or the sentient world to cultivate in order to be able to abstain from breaking precepts.

Reading from your statements, I find that you are too uptight about the Precepts.

You forgot the basic principle of cultivating is to leave all suffering behind!

You should be happier and happier and make all those around you the same too.

Stage 4 Yoga - No Cultivate Yoga 无修瑜伽. This is whether you cultivate or not, can't differentiate anymore.

As per Guru, at this stage, one has great wisdom which appears to others as craziness or madness.

:) Read my translation of Guru's article on the stages or levels of Yoga?

Honestly, there are about 500+ Disciplines for nuns and I haven't any idea what they are all about!

Why don't I care? Because, as Guru said, if you are on the moon alone, Dharma don't exist.

When Dharma don't exist or there is no need for Dharma, likewise there is no need for any disciplinary measures to ensure that all live harmoniously together.

This is Buddha's [All beings are equal and are ONE!].

Your mindset towards all sentient beings most important, as you will not harm yourself, therefore when all are considered being one with you, you will naturally not cause any harm to Self.

Dear Lotus Chef, each day when I cultivate, I also reflect of what I have done in that day, especially if I have break the five moral percepts even though only occur in my mind, I feel ashamed of it and cultivate to cleaning of it.
But I am not sure of myself because it is like that every single day I keep on and on breaking even only one of the five moral percepts and even though it only occur in my mind. I always and always confess in front of the altar each day and always admit my mistakes and chat my experiences to GM and all the Buddhas. I felt like I have keep on and on disappointing GM and the Buddha's of my whatever actions I have done. I cannot even maintain and safeguard the five moral percepts perfectly.

I felt that it is almost impossible to keep our minds every single second to become clear like crystal and not attached to it. That's why I was considering to take a long term retreat and I always have a though that I am a lay person even though I cultivate each day..... I think when I am able to take a long term retreat, I can manage my mind more effortless

Dear Lotus Chef, I would like to ask you a question :)

For example; one day I had a bad experience, and when I read and analyze my thoughts, I felt negative ones suddenly exit from my mind (just instantly ; like a bubble ...pop pop pop...) such as anger and self pity of myself etc. But I hardly prevent not to let my anger get out from my mind in words or other actions and after that I chant GM's mantra maybe around 7 times, and then I forget about my bad experiences and do not want to keep it in my mind and just assume it was only a dream (just instantly again; like a bubble ...pop pop pop...)...I keep reminding in GM's words that all experiences such as bad or good ones is only a dream

Is my action above is correct? How would you do if you are in my position?

I felt that the Buddha's mind is completely different from a lay person hahaha :) That's why also each single day I keep asking in front the altar, how would GM or other Buddhas feel when they experienced a bad one? Does their mind instantly pop up negative ones and they completely surpass it or instead instantly pop up positive ones such as compassion and wisdom hahahaa :) I always curious and keep wondering about it....because I cannot imagine it at all...is the mind empty etc?

I wished to tell you too about my past life time experience which i think I know and believe who was I am at that time...it has given me a though that karma law really exists and it is the main cause why I meet GM in this lifetime...but maybe if we can meet someday... because actually it is not a good one and I feel ashamed if I wrote to you the details in this email...hahaha :)
Thanks and best regards,

Hahaha! Thanks for classifying me with Guru and Buddhas !

You liken my thought to that of Guru & Buddhas. You forgot that you are one in the making too?

Don't think too much, just act natural.

Your biggest problem is Mindset & Confidence.

Trust Guru, have confidence that he is guiding you along the Bodhi Path. Don't bother about breaking any precepts. As you will be given chances to repent and make good. Taking refuge with Guru & the Triple Gems, one actually made vows to alleviate suffering and bring happiness to all beings. Making Boddhicitta vows, only reinforce the initial vow of refuge taking.

Let me tell you that the long retreat will not help you abstain from breaking precepts; if your mindset remain the same as now.

Most of us have pass affinity with Guru; and we have come back to continue that affinity only.

Don't let your imagination run wild when cultivating, as you can be given visuals that tempt you or disturb you from deep meditation. These are results of unsettled Karmic debts.

Therefore Guru teaches us to cultivate Vajrasattva's Repentance which is the 4 preliminaries practice for all True Buddha Students.

O! You owe me big-time for answering such a long email!

I sincerely wish you Happy Cultivating!

:)

Opinion about Retreat

Hi Lotus Chef,

Hope you are in good health, want to ask your opinion...after reading your blog about HE Yangsi Kalu Rimpoche...I was wondering your opinion regarding a three year retreat...

I was googling Kalu Rimpoche's website and found out about the three year retreat..., should it best for a lay person to attend a full retreat maybe once in his/her lifetime?

Thanks and best regards,

OPS

Hi OPS,

I am in good health, thank you.

I am honored that you ask my opinion though.

This is my humble opinion:-

Ask yourself these questions first:-

What is Retreat to you?

What is cultivation to you?

Why do you consider yourself as 'layperson'? :)

Can you spare the time, say for the 3-year one?

Hahaha!

Go through my recent articles concerning my Retreat?

A person that is truly interested in cultivation and also schedule time to cultivate regularly is not considered a 'layperson' in my dictionary.

Have you taken refuge with the Triple Gems and an accredited Guru?

Do you think that going for a long retreat will help you better understand life's philosophy?

For what Buddha teaches all these while is the Philosophy of Living Life Free from Suffering.

There are lots of laypersons' perception of what a person in Retreat should do and behave too.

These also applies to all those who are serious in cultivating.

Cultivation in my opinion is to seek the Path that leads self out of sentient suffering and subsequently helping all sentient beings do the same too.

I would like to meet all that ask or seek my help and opinions and have a good chat with you all. That way, I can truly understand your situation and help you to the best of knowledge and ability.

This is from 6th Zen Patriarch Sutra and my Root Guru, Living Buddha Lian Sheng, has explained and stressed it many times.

When a person is not affected by his external environment and his internal mind stream of thoughts to execute any actions or thoughts, he is considered to be in Samadhi.

Therefore, where you are is not important at all.

Retreat and Meditation to me is one and the same, as One plans to allot more time to cultivate.

I would advise a short retreat period once in a while say for a week and slowly increasing the duration.

We will appreciate an occasional break or vacation to "recharge" our minds and at the same time broaden our outlook.

The key is to be relax and be more observant of everything around you everytime you have a break from daily routine.

If you have taken refuge then are you confident enough to chat with the Triple Gem or your Root Guru?

If you can do so, there is no need to seek externally for my opinion at all, because you will have the answers whenever you meditate. :)

Dear OPS, if you come anywhere near where I am, lets us have tea and a good chat.

As for the renown Kalu Rimpoche and the 3 year Retreat, I have no further comment.

All depend on your affinity.

Those that crowd around my Root Guru, think that they can be powerful or have all their wishes fulfilled without effort.

A true yogi would not encourage any being to have these type of mindsets, do you agree?

Guru Rinpoche - Vivid Dream

From email:

Speaking of the altar, mine has only one stupa consisting guru's hair sarira hahaha. So simple.

However, this morning, a very strange dream did happen. Guru's consecrating the living size statue of Guru Rinpoche and the statue became alive and walked into my altar. On the right side following Guru Rinpoche was one of his consorts, and on the left one I didn't remember, just shining with white light like GM himself.

This is one dream that is somewhat clear even though I've never received any empowerment on Guru Rinpoche from GM.

REPLY:

Transmission of guru Rimpoche, can come from the universe la

congrats anyway, your affinity with guru rimpoche has matured

get a picture of him printed n place on your altar also can

hehe!

you have been initiated and moving fast liao

the book that you loan me, in fact are truly wonders

if you read all of them, your affinity should be real deep n long

cheers

The above dream is truly vivid and this is a sign that he has affinity with Guru Rinpoche.

Happy cultivating!

Cheers all.

Divine Skills?

From Facebook:

SH: By the way, one quick question... would you be able to advise with your divine skills, what could be causing my unstability in career?

LC: Do I hv divine skills? GO read the new article Plea for help

SH: sorry when we are in dire need of help.. i seek all possible ways.

I would truly like to know what is "Divine Skills"!

Dear all, please do not adhere me with any so called Divine Skills.

Is it Power to transform Bad luck into Good?

If you have read the articles about the 5 Eyes; you would know that all eyes other than the Human eye needs affinity and cultivation.

Also one must not upset the Universal Balance.

My advice to SH is to stay cool and calm and think or reflect on what he wants in life and how he should go about to  achieve his goals.

Of course having affinity with more sentient beings will help too.

As to Divine Help, one has to look at whether he has merits enough to get this type of Help.

Doing charity work or volunteering at temples or charity events does help anyway.

Cheers all.

Plea for Help

The following extracted from a facebook member’s plea for help:-

[The …… Rinpoche has a lot of nice bhumo that loves Him. That's good, Rinpoche, please Rinpoche, do some Monlam for me and my economical situation, I'm studying in a Shedra in Kathmandu, Boudha]

Hahaha! It seems that mentality of sentient beings is all the same!

I asked XH last evening these questions:-

Why did you take refuge with a Tantric Sector?

What did you learn after refuge?

Why most of you do not show up at the temple unless the Kenpo is in town?

Why always asked for help from the Kenpo?

He agreed that his and others’ attendances at the temple is unanimously to seek help from an accredited yogi/practitioner, to improve their lots in life.

They are not interested in learning anything like cultivation from the Kenpo.

Therefore they go for blessing transmissions whenever the Kenpo is in town.

Dear readers, remember we have to seek inwards and not outwards.

The Kenpo is perceived here as One with Power to perform miracles!

Just like any Rinpoche or self-proclaimed ones too!

I shared these with him as I see Amitabha Buddha’s aura around him.

Hahaha! He is one of the luckier ones amongst the group.

Affinity with Amitabha Buddha!

Advised he chant Title or mantra of Amitabha Buddha as much as possible, in so doing sharing blessing transmission with all visible and invisible beings.

The writer of the plea for help to improve his financial status should be taught to help himself too.

First say sorry for all past wrongs whether in this life or passed ones.

Then make amends by dedicating merits of chanting dharani; offerings;…to those we have wronged.

Repentance should be sincere and please do not repeat any negative deeds to harm any beings hence.

Your quality of life will improve gradually when you truly open up your heart sincerely for the benefit of all beings.

However powerful a yogi or practitioner, he/she must not go against the Law of Nature benefiting the one who plead to the detriment of his karmic foes.

Great powers come with Great responsibilities, and power of any kind/form should not be abused.

Paying lots of money will not get you everlasting/temporary power to harm.

Need Help?

Do it yourself please!

Cheers :)

Happy cultivating!

Nomor Rumah

Artikel asli ditulis oleh Lama LotusChef pada tanggal 14 Mei 2012

Tautan ke artikel tersebut : House Number

Diterjemahkan oleh Lotus Junhao

14 May  2012 08:23

Fashi, apakah nomor rumah memainkan suatu peran penting saat sedang memilih sebuah rumah untuk ditempati?

Jawaban :

House Number?

Terjemahan Indonesia : Nomor Rumah

14 May  2012 08:23

Fashi, does the door number (门牌) play an important part when choosing for a house to live?

Reply:

This is my humble opinion only, readers may choose to differ.

To a cultivator, we can cultivate to ultimate control of the 5 Elements and our surrounding.

Therefore One should not get fixated on number of a house of even the direction or layout of the house One lives in.

Likewise, One's name! Somewhen to the extend to get some masters to help them choose an auspicious name that match their Bio Data; and turn their destiny around to great auspiciousness!

:)

The Heart Demon created doubts that bring about Sentient Suffering and cultivators Should Not Put Any Thoughts into Action thereby starting/initializing a chain of Reactions.

Karma is actually Action and Reaction.

As per 6th Zen Patriarch, Hui Neng, All Thoughts are Evil. Our Root Guru explained these in details already.

Move away from or leave all Thoughts behind, do not let Thoughts affect you into Action.
