佈施無求 Dana Without Motive

Dana is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is given from the heart.

Quoting from Meaning of the Pali Word "Dana":

Dana (generosity) Practice
In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless; in the Buddhist tradition we also practice dana, or generosity, by making monetary offerings for the teachings. 
Dana is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is given from the heart. Your generosity is a gift that supports not just the teachers, but also the Sangha, the larger Dharma community, and your own practice.

dana [daana]: Giving, liberality; offering, alms. 
Specifically, giving of any of the four requisites to the monastic order. 
More generally, the inclination to give, without expecting any form of repayment from the recipient. 
Dana is the first theme in the Buddha's system of gradual training, the first of the ten paramitas, one of the seven treasures, and the first of the three grounds for meritorious action.

Key Secret to Great mandala offering - Dana without motive.


 供養就是奉養的意思,對上的供養,含有親近、奉事、尊敬的意思,對下含有同情、憐憫、愛護的意思。

  我們的供物,一般是六種,即花、塗香、水、燒香、飯食、燈明。此六種表示佈施持戒忍辱精進禪定智慧。

  密宗的八供,再加「如意螺」、「沐浴水」即是。

  另外,尚有七供、廿七供、卅七供,依次第是「須彌山、東洲、南洲、西洲、北洲、日、月、八小洲、輪寶、象寶、馬寶、珠寶、將軍寶、玉女寶、主藏寶、寶藏瓶、寶山、寶樹、寶牛、粳米、大寶蓋、小寶蓋、持花女、持香女、持燈女、持塗女、嬉女、鬘女、歌女、舞女。」

  這其中的「八小洲」等於八供,合計卅七供。

  密宗的大供養法是:

  手結供養手印。

  觀想供品,印在腦海之中,先化為一排,再化為一面,再變為宇宙十方上下均是供品,無量無盡。

  心中默唸供養咒加持之:

  「嗡。沙爾娃。打他架打。衣打木。古魯拉那。面渣拉。堪。尼里耶。打耶咪。」

  再將手印觸天心散印。

  我們學佛者,當先修廣大供養,以這供養,供養上師三寶金剛護法,求其加被成就。其原則是天下所有須彌山、日月、四大部洲、七珍八寶。用想念的力量,加持咒語手印,一一化現如雲如海,重重無盡。

  這種供養是勝妙殊特。

  這種供養是清淨莊嚴。

  這種供養是廣大供養。

  供養印如下:二無名指相背立,次二中指平伸相叉,二小指平伸相叉,次以二食指鉤二中指,二大指按二小指之端。

  供養結束,所唸的「讚」是:

  須彌四洲並日月。

  化諸珍寶供養佛。

  種種莊嚴諸功德。

  願共眾生證菩提。

  我們學會「大供養的方法」,更要明白「大供養的口訣」,其實大供養的口訣,就是「佈施」與「無求」。

  「佈施」就是以自己之所有施捨於人,
[Dana] is with One's all, giving generously to others,

第一種是財施,就是用財物去救濟疾病貧苦的人。
First type is Wealth/Monetary Dana - using wealth to save the sickly poor.

第二種是法施,就是用正法去勸人修善斷惡。
Second type is Dharma Dana - using Right/Authentic Dharma to persuade others to cultivate virtue and break free of evil.

第三種是無畏施,就是不顧慮自己的安危去解除別人的怖畏。
Third type is fearless/dauntless/unscared Dana - is regardless of self's well-being to free other's fear.

  「佈施」就是為了度慳貪。
[Dana] is to succour those greedy misers.

  而「蓮生活佛」以為「無求」就是真正大供養的口訣,因為要度慳貪,就是「無求」也。

  如果「無求」,即心無所心,無求就無心,心無所依,因為心無依,也就妄念不起,不住不著,洞然清淨。

  「無求」是大供養中的無盡供養。

  「有求」是大供養中的有限福報。

  「蓮生活佛」請大家注意金剛經 (Diamond Sutra) 的「妙行無住分」
第四:復次:「須菩提!菩薩於法,應無所住,行於佈施。所謂不住色佈施,不住聲、香、味、觸、法佈施。須菩提!菩薩應如是佈施,不住於相。何以故?

  若菩薩不住相佈施,其福德不可思量。須菩提!於意云何?東方虛空可思量不 ?」「不也。世尊!」「須菩提!南、西、北、四維、上、下虛空,可思量不?」「不也。世尊!」「須菩提!菩薩無住相佈施,福德亦復如是,不可思量。須菩提!菩薩但應如所教住!」

  「無住相佈施」就是「無求佈施」,是不可思量的。
[Dana of no fixation of form] is [Dana without Motive], is unfathomable.

  「蓮生活佛」明白,我們行大供養法,若能無求供養,所得的福報也就像虛空 這樣的不可限量。

  降伏妄心,在於「無求」。
Suppress reckless heart, is at [Without Motive or Wants/Rewards].

  大供養的真實口訣在於「佈施無求」。

妙行无住分第四
WONDERFUL PRACTICE IS TO NOT RELY ON ANYTHING, FOUR


“Furthermore, Subhuti,
复次,须菩提!

“a Bodhisattva's mind should not abide anywhere when giving alms;
菩萨于法,应无所住,行于布施,

“that is to say, he should give without a mind abiding in form,
所谓不住色布施,

“or he should give without a mind abiding in sound, or in smell, or in taste, or in touch or in things .
不住声香味触法布施。

“Subhuti thus a Bodhisattva should give alms without a mind abiding in false notions of form (laksana)
须菩提!菩萨应如是布施,不住于相。

“Why?
何以故?

“(Because) if a Bodhisattva's mind does not abide in forms. (laksanas) when practicing charity (dana),
若菩萨不住相布施,

“his merit will be inconceivable and immeasurable.
其福德不可思量。

“Subhuti, what do you think? Can you think of and measure the extent of space in the East?”
须菩提!于意云何?东方虚空可思量不?

“I cannot, World Honored One!
不也,世尊!

“Subhuti, can you think of and measure (all) the extent of space in the South, West and North, as well as in the intermediate directions, including the zenith and nadir?”
须菩提!南西北方四维上下虚空可思量不?

“I cannot, World Honoured One!”
不也,世尊!

“Subhuti, (when) a Bodhisattva practices charity without a mind abiding in forms,
须菩提!菩萨无住相布施,

“his merit is equally inconceivable and immeasurable.
福德亦复如是不可思量。

“Subhuti, a Bodhisattva's mind should thus abide as taught.
须菩提!菩萨但应如所教住。
