Learning Concentration & Calming Self

These just came to my mind.

Do something with your hands that you can concentrate for a long period and in so doing can calm you mind.

Folding lotuses is good. Or learn Origami.
The sense of achievement and the nice things you folded, will being Joy as well.

Crochet or Knitting.
In these, you need to maintain a pattern to make something.
Like making a hat, you need to keep count of stitches and the most important is maintain a regular tension so that stitches are evenly spaced out.
This helps you to concentrate for longer periods too.

Knots & Braids.
This is yet another to hold your concentration for long periods.
Also need to maintain a constant tension on the strings or ropes you are using.
Sense of Joy from achievement is great.

TaiQi & other Passive exercises.
This one also needs concentration as you move from one pose to another.
Also maintaining a regular rhythm.
You learn to breath slow and easy and also become more articulate or nimble or flexible in mobility of all joints and limbs of your body.
Improves health too.


In all the above, you can be creative too, after you have learn the basics!

:) Try anyone of them or all if you so please.

To be successful in Visualization, you need to learn to pool your concentration on One first and then slowly change to another.
This is to train your mind to stay and hold on to a certain image or thought.
The Lojong or mind training articles, are too advanced for most as you need to start from scratch.

But remember this is initial stage only. As you progress, you have to empty all thoughts and do not get attached or fixated on any thoughts or visions. :)

This is a good suggestion to Build Foundation!
Tell yourself this : I Can Do It! I Will Try My Very Best Too!
